Biography Articles

Günes Ünüvar is a post-doctoral research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence for International Courts (iCourts), Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen and counsel partner at Özgür & Ünüvar Legal Consultancy. Formerly a Carlsberg Foundation postdoctoral scholar, he obtained his PhD from the University of Copenhagen in 2016 with his dissertation focusing on international investment law and adjudication. He was awarded his LL.M. in 2012 from Institute for European Studies (IES), Vrije Universiteit Brussel; and LL.B. from Bilkent University in 2010. In the course of his PhD, he conducted research at Columbia Law School in New York and Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels as a visiting researcher. His research interests generally cover issues related to international economic law, treaty interpretation, investor-State arbitration, China and economic policy-making, as well as art and cultural heritage-related dispute settlement. He represents his home institution, iCourts, as a non-governmental observer and a member of the Academic Forum at the UNICTRAL Working Group III meetings on Investor-State Dispute Settlement Reform since 2018.
