GC Elite Türkiye 2027 will bring together some of the country’s most distinguished general counsel, heads of legal, senior in-house lawyers, rising stars and legal teams for a major annual celebration of excellence within Türkiye’s corporate legal community.
Created by Barış Agun, founder of Barış Agun Business Development Agency and GC Elite Türkiye, the event is designed to recognise the achievements of in-house lawyers while bringing the profession together for an evening of celebration, connection and high-level networking.
GC Elite Türkiye has developed into an annual Istanbul-based platform dedicated specifically to recognising outstanding Turkish in-house counsel. Its purpose is broader than simply presenting awards: it gives visibility to a profession whose contribution to business is often significant but takes place behind the scenes.
For 2027, the ambition is to continue developing GC Elite Türkiye as one of the defining occasions in the Turkish legal calendar — an evening at which the country’s leading in-house lawyers come together to recognise excellence, celebrate their profession and strengthen the relationships that connect the community.
Headline sponsor: Aslan & Tok Attorney Partnership. The evening will be held at Feriye. The precise June date is to be confirmed.
More than an awards ceremony
At its heart, GC Elite Türkiye is about recognition. The role of the modern general counsel has changed considerably. Today’s in-house lawyers are not simply advisers on legal questions. They are increasingly involved in some of the most important decisions their organisations make — helping businesses manage risk, navigate regulation, complete transactions, respond to crises, introduce new technologies, enter new markets and develop sustainable long-term strategies.
Yet much of this work happens away from public view. GC Elite Türkiye provides a national platform through which these achievements can be recognised and celebrated.
The programme acknowledges excellence at different stages of an in-house lawyer’s career and across different parts of the profession, including recognition for emerging talent, established leaders and outstanding in-house legal teams. Existing GC Elite Türkiye categories have included Rising Stars and senior individual recognition, as well as awards for legal teams across multiple industry sectors.
GC Elite Türkiye 2027 will continue that philosophy: celebrating not only professional seniority, but achievement, influence, leadership, innovation and contribution to the wider in-house legal community.
Recognising Türkiye’s leading in-house legal talent
One of the defining characteristics of GC Elite Türkiye is the breadth of the community it recognises. From lawyers beginning to establish themselves as future leaders to highly experienced general counsel who have helped shape the profession, GC Elite Türkiye creates a platform through which excellence can be recognised across different generations.
This matters because there is no single model of an outstanding in-house lawyer. Excellence may mean successfully leading a legal department through a major transformation. It may involve supporting an organisation through a landmark transaction, regulatory challenge or dispute. It may mean introducing technology that fundamentally changes how a legal team operates, developing a new compliance culture, mentoring the next generation of lawyers, or building an exceptional in-house legal function.
Previous editions have already demonstrated the scale of that ambition. In 2025, more than 200 in-house legal counsel were brought together at the event, with 204 lawyers recognised across its categories. GC Elite Türkiye 2027 will build on that foundation, continuing to bring a significant cross-section of Türkiye’s corporate legal leadership together under one roof.
Celebrating the changing role of the general counsel
The significance of the event also reflects the changing position of legal departments within major organisations. General counsel increasingly sit at the intersection of law, strategy, risk, governance, technology and commercial decision-making.
They are expected to understand not only legal developments, but the wider environment in which their organisations operate. Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, ESG, competition law, sanctions, data protection, employment regulation, geopolitical risk and constantly changing regulatory expectations are all becoming part of the modern in-house agenda. At the same time, legal leaders are being asked to run their departments more efficiently, demonstrate value to the business and find new ways to manage relationships with external counsel.
By recognising both individuals and teams, the event highlights the strategic importance of the in-house legal profession and demonstrates how sophisticated legal departments are contributing directly to the success of Türkiye’s leading businesses.
A gathering of Türkiye’s in-house legal community
While recognition is central to GC Elite Türkiye, the event has another equally important role: bringing the community together. There are relatively few occasions during the year when such a broad group of general counsel, heads of legal and senior in-house lawyers can meet in a genuinely social environment.
The evening is deliberately designed to combine the prestige of a major recognition programme with the atmosphere of a high-level social gathering. Guests can reconnect with established professional contacts, meet fellow general counsel from different sectors, develop relationships with the next generation of legal leaders and spend time with colleagues outside the pressures of their everyday professional environment.
Creating connections across industries
One of the strengths of the event is that it brings together lawyers from organisations and industries that may rarely interact during their normal working lives. Senior counsel from sectors including financial services, technology, healthcare and life sciences, energy, manufacturing, retail, consumer goods, transport and logistics and other major industries can find themselves sharing experiences and discussing challenges that are remarkably similar.
Over time, these connections help build something larger than the individual event: a stronger and more connected Turkish in-house legal community.
Recognising the next generation
An important part of GC Elite Türkiye is its commitment to recognising lawyers earlier in their careers. Established general counsel naturally occupy an important place within the profession, but the long-term strength of the in-house community depends equally upon identifying and encouraging the people who will become its future leaders.
Recognition of Rising Stars provides an opportunity to highlight talented lawyers who are already making a meaningful contribution to their organisations and profession during the earlier stages of their careers. Current nomination criteria specifically recognise qualified in-house counsel with one to four years’ experience who demonstrate strong contribution, growth and professional development.
Bringing these emerging professionals into the same event as some of Türkiye’s most experienced general counsel makes GC Elite Türkiye not only a celebration of what the profession has achieved, but a showcase for where the profession is going next.
Celebrating outstanding legal teams
The success of a general counsel is rarely achieved alone. Behind many of Türkiye’s leading legal leaders are teams of lawyers, compliance professionals, legal operations specialists and other colleagues whose work allows sophisticated legal functions to operate successfully.
Existing GC Elite Türkiye awards recognise in-house legal teams across eleven industry sectors, focusing on teams delivering standout performance for their organisations through innovation, effective use of internal capability and sophisticated management of external counsel. The strongest legal departments are increasingly defined by collaboration, specialist expertise, technology, operational excellence and the ability to work closely with the wider business.
A platform built around the in-house profession
The philosophy behind GC Elite Türkiye is deliberately focused on the in-house community. Barış Agun has developed an extensive network across Türkiye’s legal market, with relationships spanning more than 500 in-house counsel and over 150 law firms. His previous work has included organising dozens of legal events and conferences across İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir.
Rather than treating in-house lawyers simply as an audience for another legal conference, the event places them at the centre of the occasion. Their achievements are recognised. Their teams are celebrated. Their professional relationships are strengthened. And the wider contribution they make to Turkish business receives the visibility it deserves.
Excellence. Recognition. Community.
Ultimately, GC Elite Türkiye is built around three ideas. Excellence — recognising the lawyers and legal teams setting exceptional standards within their organisations. Recognition — giving greater visibility to the strategic contribution made by Türkiye’s in-house legal profession. Community — bringing together the people who lead, influence and represent that profession.
The long-term ambition is to create an annual occasion that the in-house legal profession regards as its own major celebration: an evening where senior general counsel expect to see their peers, emerging lawyers can meet some of the profession’s most respected leaders, legal teams can celebrate achievements collectively, and relationships formed across the Turkish legal market can be renewed and strengthened.
