On 07.03.2025, “December 2024 – Turkey Financial Sector Payment Systems Report” Was Published on the Website of the Banks Association of Türkiye
The Banks Association of Türkiye(“TBB”) published the December 2024-Turkey Financial Sector Payment Systems Report (“Report”) on 07.03.2025 on the TBB website. The Report contains comprehensive data on payment systems in Türkiye and the number and amounts of transactions made with payment instruments.
In addition, non-branch channel-based data and selected items related to the nature of payments are also included in the Report. It is stated that the data published in the report is based on the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, the Interbank Card Center A.Ş., the Banks Association of Türkiye Risk Center and the Banks Association of Türkiye.
Some of the key findings in the report are as follows:
- Demand for electronic payment systems is increasing. The FAST system has increased by 41% in terms of annual transaction volume, reaching 4.6 billion.
- In the last year, a total transaction volume of 721 trillion TL was realized in EFT, EMKT, PÖS and FAST systems; this amount is approximately 17 times the gross national product (“GNP”).
- Mobile and internet banking transactions are at a total rate of 75% of GNP. Mobile banking transactions correspond to 49% of GNP, and internet banking transactions correspond to 26%.
- Card shopping transactions reached 65% of GNP, while card cash transactions accounted for 11% of GNP.
- QR code payments increased by 271% in terms of the number of transactions compared to the previous year and recorded the fastest growth in this area.
- While mobile banking usage increased rapidly, internet banking usage declined. There was a 12% increase in the number of remittance transactions made using mobile banking.
- Mobile banking was used for 45% of the transactions made through the Retail Payment System (“RPS”).
- The number of credit and debit card transactions grew by 16% year-on-year.
- The number of checks presented increased by 1% year-on-year.
