Dr Karen Akıncı graduated in 1993 from the University of Exeter, where she obtained two degrees in mathematics and a law degree from the College of Law in England in 2008. Dr Akıncı obtained a masters and PhD in mathematics from Dokuz Eylül University in 1996 and 1999, respectively. She is an accredited mediator for the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, since 2011, and a member of the member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
She is a native English speaker and is fluent in Turkish.
Dr. Akıncı’s main areas of expertise are dispute resolution, both in international investment law and international commercial arbitration and mediation.
She also acts as a consultant for foreigners living in Turkey and provides consultation on diverse areas, from international family and inheritance laws to setting up businesses in Turkey. Dr Akıncı is well known for her involvement in international child abduction cases in Turkey under The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
