Arbitration Experts Gathering in Istanbul

The inaugural edition of the Istanbul Arbitration Days will take place at the Çırağan Palace Kempinski between 18-20 April 2024. This special event will bring together international and local arbitration practitioners, industry experts, academics, and students, hosting over 500 participants.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with arbitration practitioners from Turkish and international law firms, multinational corporations, and government institutions, forming a unique network.

Topics to be addressed during the event include arbitration experiences, issues related to substantive and procedural matters encountered in complex disputes, the role of in-house counsels in arbitration, the impact of technological developments on arbitration, among others. Additionally, there will be discussions on investment disputes involving states, moderated by Sylvia Tonova from the renowned law firm Pinsent Masons, as well as sessions on the role of arbitration in the construction sector and emerging arbitration trends. Furthermore, experts including Josh Rievman from Dunning Rievman & MacDonald LLP will discuss issues such as the impact of economic sanctions on international arbitration, energy disputes and regional recognition and enforcement processes.

A significant part of the event will be the keynote address on developments in dispute resolution, by Gary Born from WilmerHale, who is also a member of the ISTAC Board. Speakers from leading law firms in the United States, France, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as Ekrem Kaya from HKA, Leonardo Carpentieri from Rosenblatt, and Xavier Rayo from FTI Consulting, will provide valuable insights to participants.

On Saturday, April 20th, events themed "Inspiring Women" will be organized, featuring leadership examples from Burcu Geriş, Deputy CEO and CFO of TAV Airports, and Çiçek Uşaklıgil Özgüneş representing Coca-Cola CCI.

Lastly, the Istanbul Arbitration Days will offer side events designed to encourage concrete connections and create collaboration opportunities. These events include an opening reception at the Pera Palace Hotel, a Law Rocks concert, a cocktail reception at the Basilica Cistern, and a wine tasting and Vogue Brunch event supported by Dunning Rievman & MacDonald LLP.
