On the 15th May 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, chaired the UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan, Abu Dhabi, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court; His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. During this session, various innovative initiatives were announced, highlighting the nation's commitment to a sustainable future alongside environmental champions.
As rightfully stated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the sustainability of an economy is directly linked to the sustainability of its environment. Following last year's COP28, the UAE government extended its theme to 2024 as the year of sustainability.
A monumental step towards a sustainable future is advanced with the cabinet's new initiative of the Blue Residency Visa. This unique visa program envisions encouraging individuals to contribute to sustainable economic development actively.
The Blue Residency Visa is a 10-year residential visa program provided to a wide range of individuals passionate about creating a sustainable environment, considering their outstanding contributions and efforts in environmental conservation.
The visa is available to individuals who advocate for environmental safety within and beyond the UAE. Further, it is also provided to global award winners, members of international organisations and companies, as well as members of associations and NGOs, activists and researchers invested in environmental causes. The qualified individuals may register through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security or may also be nominated by relevant authorities.
Subsequently, this initiative hopes to foster the development of a circular economy, leading to advancements in green technology.
